TAIWAN SIGNS DOUBLE TAXA-TION AGREEMENT WITH NETH-ERLANDS
On 27 February 2001, the Taipei Representative Office in the Netherlands and the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office signed an Agree-ment for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income. The agreement is expected to come into effect in July 2001, once both gov-ernments have completed their relevant proce-dures.
This is the 14th comprehensive tax agreement signed by Taiwan. Ten have already taken effect. The agreement with the Netherlands is of par-ticular significance because it is the first com-prehensive tax agreement signed with a Western European country. Taiwan has also signed agreements with 14 countries for the reciprocal exemption from taxes on income derived from international shipping and/or air transport op-erations.
