FIXED NETWORK BUSINESS REGULATIONS AMENDED
On 30 May 2001, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced the addition of a new Article 73-1 to its Regulations Governing Fixed Network Telecommunications Businesses. The new article stipulates the principle of indi-rect cross-strait communications. It provides that until such time as direct communications are permitted between local operators' networks and mainland networks, communications between them must be effected by circuit switching via a third territory or through international networks (including international submarine cables, in-ternational satellites, and international gateway exchanges and switching equipment).
