ONLINE EXTENSION OF FOR-EIGN SPECIALISTS' WORK PERMITS EXPECTED
Following Taiwan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the CLA has drafted amendments to various provisions of the Rules Governing Employment and Management of Foreigners. According to the draft, within 60 days before the expiry of the approved term of employment of foreign specialist personnel, the employer may apply online for extension of the approved term, up to a maximum of three years on each occasion.
When an employer in Taiwan recruits foreign blue-collar workers, it must also notify its labor union and the labor representatives who repre-sent its workforce at labor-management meet-ings, and must submit documents issued by the local competent authority to demonstrate that it has not downgraded its conditions of employ-ment for local workers as a result of employing foreign blue-collar workers.
