CLA TO HANDLE WHITE-COLLAR WORK PERMIT APPLICATIONS
From 15 January 2004, all applications for for-eign white-collar workers will be processed by the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA). The CLA will draw up standards for the review of foreign nationals' qualifications to engage in the types of work designated in Article 46 Paragraph 1 Sub-paragraphs 1 to 6 of the Employment Service Act (activities open to foreign white-collar workers). It will also relax the qualifications for specialist personnel to work in Taiwan's emerging and strategic industries, and remove the requirement for professional experience.
In view of the need for frequent movements of international personnel, the standards will also provide that foreigners carrying out specialist or technical work in the performance of a contract who stay in Taiwan for less than 90 days will not be subject to any requirements in terms of aca-demic qualifications or professional experience.
