IPR SELF-REGULATION BY VCD MAKERS
To illustrate Taiwan's resolve to protect intellectual property rights and to promote the VCD product-origin ID-number labeling system, the Board of Foreign Trade (BOFT) convened over 40 domestic VCD manufacturers on 10 February to sign a self-regulation convention. By signing the convention, the manufacturers promised to refrain from counterfeiting and from infringing on intellectual property rights. The BOFT also plans to announce that VCDs, AVCDs, digital AVCDs, and CD ROMs must bear labels with product-origin ID numbers; otherwise they may not be exported or sold domestically.
