JOINT OWNERSHIP OF TRADE-MARKS ALLOWED
In the past, the IPO has always refused to accept applications for trademark registration filed jointly by multiple applicants. As part of the proposed amendments to the Trademark Act, the IPO is considering to permit joint ownership of trademarks, so that a registered trademark may be jointly owned by multiple rights holders.
It is not yet possible to predict precisely when joint ownership will be formally allowed in Taiwan, but the IPO may accept trademark ap-plications from multiple applicants in advance.
We therefore suggest that readers with a need to register joint ownership of a trademark consider the submission of a joint application in advance, in order to obtain such registration as early as possible after the joint ownership of trademark becomes available in Taiwan.
