PLACE-OF-ORIGIN MARKING ON PACKAGED FOODS
In an announcement dated 31 October 2006, the Department of Health gave advance notice that from 1 November 2007, food products packaged in a container or in packaging must be marked with the place of origin on the external packag-ing of the individual product. The font used to mark the place of origin should be not less than 2 mm tall and 2 mm wide. The place of origin of imported foodstuffs should be determined in accordance with the Criteria for Determining the Place of Origin of Imported Goods, jointly is-sued by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. If the external packaging is already clearly marked with the manufacturer's address (including the country, in the case of imported products), the goods can be deemed to be marked with the place of origin, and addi-tional labeling is not necessary.
The new requirement will apply to goods manufactured from 1 November 2007.
