FULL NHI PREMIUM SUPPORT FOR UNEMPLOYEDS' FAMILIES
In the past, the Employment Insurance Act pro-vided subsidies for the National Health Insurance (NHI) premiums payable by the unemployed, but the subsidies did not extend to their families.
In view of the fact that the loss of wages may leave the unemployed unable to pay NHI pre-miums for their dependent family members, thus depriving their family members of access to af-fordable healthcare, the Act has been amended to provide for payment of the NHI premiums of family members who are jointly insured with an unemployed insured person, with effect from 31 January 2007.
In line with this change, the Council of Labor Affairs has amended the Regulations Governing the Subsidy of National Health Insurance Pre-miums of Unemployed Insured Persons and Their Family Members, with effect from the same date.
