LSA TO APPLY TO ALL EMPLOYEES BY END OF 2009
The Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) stated that pursuant to its policy of extending the application of the Labor Standards Act to all employment relationships, it had completed a review of temporary employees of various occupations in public employment. The CLA announced that from 1 January 2008 the LSA will apply to temporary staff employed by public organizations in various designated sectors (including public agencies, public education and training service enterprises, public social welfare organizations, public academic and research service enterprises, and public artistic and cultural enterprises).
The CLA will continue to monitor other sectors and workers to whom the LSA does not yet apply, including foreign nationals employed as domestic help, and employees of professional firms of physicians, accountants, and lawyers. The CLA plans to apply the LSA to all workers by the end of 2009.
