ELECTRONIC FILING OF TRADEMARK APPLICATIONS
From the end of August 2008 the Intellectual Property Office will begin accepting electronic filing of certain trademark-related applications.
Pursuant to the Regulations Governing Electronic Applications in Trademark-Related Matters, promulgated on 9 May 2008, the IPO announced on 27 May the types of trademark-related application that will be accepted in electronic form, and related procedures. Electronic applications are initially limited to new applications and subsequent procedures relating to trademarks, collective trademarks, certification marks, and collective membership marks, making for a total of 20 different electronic application forms.
It is understood that the acceptance of electronic applications for other matters, such as renewal of registration and dispute resolution procedures, will be gradually phased in and announced at a later time.
