FOREIGN LABORER QUOTA FOR MAJOR INVESTMENT PROJECTS REDUCED TO 20%
The Council of Labor Affairs announced on 30 July 1999 that effective immediately, the quota for foreign laborers to be employed by manufacturing firms with at least NT$200 million invested should be lowered from 24% to 20%. In addition, employers who use foreign laborers originally brought into Taiwan under other circumstances must include those laborers when calculating their total number of laborers. If an employer's total number of foreign laborers exceeds 30% of its total number of domestic laborers, the employer must reduce the number of foreign laborers employed to 20% of the excess.
