The Amendment to the Negative List for Investment by Overseas Chinese and Foreign Nationals was promulgated and announced by the Executive Yuan on 17 June 2013. As a result of this amendment, the number of business items that had not been previously open to foreign investment have now been reduced from 16 to 14, whereas the number of business items in which foreign investment are subject to certain restrictions have also been reduced from 52 to 30. For example, the business of "forestry" was not open to any foreign investment before but after this amendment, the investment in the business of forestry is possible and would only be subject to the restrictions set forth in other relevant laws (i.e., the Land Act).
