EMPLOYMENT SERVICES ACT AMENDED
The amendments to Articles 43 and 51 of the Employment Services Act were promulgated on 26 January 2000. The most significant amend-ment is the addition of new work categories for which foreign nationals may be employed within the ROC. They include: qualified foreign lan-guage teachers for registered private junior high schools and elementary schools; and special subject teachers for bilingual sections within public or registered private senior high schools, or for bilingual schools. However, employers must first attempt to recruit staff within the ROC, offering reasonable conditions of employment, and may only apply to employ foreign nationals for the remaining number of unfilled posts.
