Amendments to certain articles of the Code of Criminal Procedure were promulgated by the President on 9 February 2000. The most note-worthy change is the limitation placed on private prosecutions for offences other than those only prosecutable on complaint. Under the new rules, where a public prosecutor has begun investiga-tion of such a case, no private prosecution may be brought in the same case except by a direct victim of the crime.
