In response to the timetable for controls on hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) discussed at the 12th meeting of the parties to the Montreal Pro-tocol, the MOEA has drawn up a revised sched-ule for prohibiting the use of HCFCs, by which it expects to reduce HCFC use to 35% of current levels. The items covered are as follows:
From 1 January 2000: Keyboards, monitors and other computer peripherals.
From 1 January 2004: Modems, GSM, mobile phones and other communications products.
From 1 January 2006: IC hybrid products, LCD displays, quartz crystal oscillators and other non-electronic products.
From 1 January 2001: Furniture and sports equipment.
From 1 January 2002: Construction fillers, and thermal insulation materials for partition wall and corrugated sheet products.
From 1 January 2004: Thermal insulation materials for refrigerators, freezers and chest freezers.
Provisionally from 1 January 2003: Win-dow-type air conditioners, package-type air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
The Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA will separately announce the end of HCFC quotas for manufacturers. From that time on, the relevant manufacturers will not be able to obtain HCFCs through legitimate channels.
